“Hey! That sounds like a joke. Why would the dead girl lie?
Answer: Because she can’t stand up.
Is this some kind of twisted suicide note?
Go ahead. Laugh.
Oh well, I thought it was funny.” – Hannah Baker pg. 8
” For fun, I filled mine out as Holden Caulfield from The Catcher in the Rye, that semester’s required reading and the first person to come to mind.
Holden. What a horrible first date that depressed loner would make.” – Clay Jenson pg.122 in reference to filling out his Valentine’s Day love survey. (Note: I hate any and all references to The Catcher in the Rye, due to the fact that I am one of the rare people who studied English literature and despises that book. But the part where Clay makes fun of Holden made me laugh.)
“The wonderful thing about a yearbook photo is that everyone shares the moment with you…forever.” – Ms. Benson pg.124
“Like Driving along a bumpy road and losing control of the steering wheel, tossing you – just a tad – off the road. The wheels kick up some dirt, but you’re able to pull it back. Yet no matter how tightly you grip the wheel, no matter how hard you try to drive straight, something keeps jerking you to the side. You have so little control over anything anyways anymore. And at some point, the struggle becomes too much – too tiring – and you consider letting go. Allowing tragedy…or whatever…to happen.” – Hannah Baker pg.124
“And for some reason, at that moment, the air felt heavy. Filled with loneliness. And that loneliness sayed with me through the rest of the night.” – Hannah Baker pg. 206
