Waffle Bant in Pyeongtaek

After our meal at Uncle Tomato for Valentine’s Day, Jim and I wanted some dessert. We ended up at Waffle Bant and it was a great choice. Waffle Bant is down the middle finger across from AK Plaza in Pyeongtaek, on the right side of the street, near the Skin Food makeup store.

Jim had a Carmel Macchiato and I had a Vanilla Latte. We both ordered waffles as well. The waffles were warm and filling; the syrup was very sweet, almost like honey. Although they advertise having ice cream, we didn’t see any ice cream to buy. We originally thought we were going to have waffles and ice cream. I’m glad we were able to try something different. These make a great dessert and could even be a quick breakfast on your way to Seoul.

2013 Guinness World Records Kindle Deal

2013Today’s Kindle Daily Deal for kids is fantastic. For only $2.99, you can own the most current edition of the Guinness World Records book. This is a great book to add to your Kindle collection. This e-book usually sells for $20.99 (Originally $28.95 for the printed version, on sale for $18.09.)  This offer is in full color so all you Kindle Fire owners/tablet owners out there should really hop on this deal.

I wonder if the current Bachelor on ABC, Sean Lowe, new kissing record is in this edition. He set the “World’s Longest On-screen Kiss” record with contestant Lesley, unfortunately, she is not his new bride-to-be.  I bet it’s going to be awkward to explain this world record to his future kids, especially since they won’t be with Lesley.

Book Review: Nice Is Just a Place in France: How to Win at Basically Everything by The Betches

betches

Nice Is Just a Place in France by The Betches is a self-help guide for girls who don’t want to be the “nice girl” anymore and want to take control of their lives. The Betches have an online magazine type blog where they dish on celebrities, gossip, give advice, and just say whatever the heck they want to say. I love reading the weekly Bachelor recaps and Pretty Little Liars recaps because they never cease to make me laugh. This book is not for anyone who frowns upon cursing and/or inappropriate remarks.

This self-help book was comical (even though The Betches say this isn’t an actual self-help book and it’s definitely not a guide to happiness.) I really couldn’t take any of it seriously and most of the time if I wasn’t laughing, I was semi-offended. This would have been a better read for someone who is single/just dating someone and is between the ages of 16 and 24. It would be good for girls in high school or girls still into partying in college. My partying days are way over and a lot of the advice just made think, “I hope I didn’t act like that in college.”

This is not a book for feminists. I wouldn’t put in my biography that I am an extreme feminst, but The Betches did take it a little too far at some points by saying how women shouldn’t be too aggressive and should always let other people do stuff for you. The chapter on careers did make me laugh out loud though. The Betches said how women had it made 100 years ago, when all we had to do is look good and give birth. I’d love to walk around in dresses every day, but these days people are always asking, “Why are you dressed up? Where are you going?” Can’t I just look nice?

Some of the other topics that The Betches talk about include: diets, exercise, dating, and the image you give off to other people (hair, makeup, nails, what to wear/not to wear.) Famous women that are talked about in the book that can be referred to as betches are: Snooki, Kris Jenner, and Victoria Beckham.

The funniest part of the whole book was the section on tanning. I love to tan; it’s when my full on Jersey girl/Italian girl sides come out and I was just cracking up during this section. I also laughed a lot during the Facebook section of the book. Oh Facebook, can’t live with it, can’t live without it. Will there ever be a time without Facebook?

I liked all of the random quotes that were plopped into the middle of each section of the book and the Friends (LOVE that show) reference about how guys and girls really can’t be friends. The thing I didn’t like about the book was the drug references. I would have enjoyed the book as more of a stand up comedian act if it weren’t for the constant drug references; those should have been left out and were really inappropriate.

Sometimes we need to take a break from all of our serious book reads and have a good laugh. Nice Is Just a Place in France is just that, a book to laugh at and not read between the lines.  This isn’t a type of book you pick for your next book club read but it definitely is the type of book you can read at the gym while sitting on the bike pretending to workout.

Nice Is Just a Place in France: How to win at Basically Everything will be released on March 12, 2013. In the meantime, you can go check out The Betches blog, Betches Love This.

I was given an ARC e-book of this book in return for an honest review.

Jennifer Lawrence, you’re awesome.

Sometimes we fall down, but just remember, at least you didn’t fall at the Oscars. I don’t think I would have ever recovered so quickly and so gracefully like Jennifer Lawrence did.

You owned that fall, Jennifer. You also rocked out on this interview and looked so beautiful in your dress.

I’m not going to lie, when I first found out Jennifer Lawrence was going to play Katniss Everdeen in the movie adaption of the Hunger Games (which I read and LOVED before it was cool,) I didn’t think it would work out. But then, she grew on me and now I love her. She’s just hilarious. Check out her newest movie The Silver Linings Playbook based on the novel by Matthew Quick. I have yet to read the book, but I have seen the movie and Ms. Lawrence was great in it(hence why she won the Oscar,) as well as Bradley Cooper.

Matthew Quick grew up in New Jersey and went to Collingswood High School. After receiving a degree in English Literature from La Salle University, Mr. Quick taught English at Haddonfield Memorial High School, then left to pursue his writing career. Both high schools are not too far from my parent’s house.

The Silver Linings Playbook was filmed in Delaware County, PA (many scenes were shot in Upper Darby, PA.) Many of shots in the movie are places I have driven by almost my entire life. My parents went to the Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Prendergast, the schools where Bradley Cooper’s wife worked. I’m not sure if I have ever been to the Llanerch Diner, but I am going to be a tourist when I go back in April  to check it out AND take my picture in front of the sign. Yes, I’m that cool.

Raggedy Ann Heart by Heather McPhaul Free Kindle Book

ann

Another free Kindle book today. This YA novel sounds interesting . I have never heard of it until today, but the title caught my interest. It was written in 2008 by Heather McPhaul and set in 1970s West Texas.  I have always loved Raggedy Ann and I collect Raggedy Ann and Andy memorabilia. There are only four reviews, but they are all five stars! Sent it to my Kindle and I will be reading (hopefully) sometime soon.

Free Paleo Diet Kindle Book

food

I don’t understand the whole Paleo diet; if I couldn’t have carbs, sweets, or dairy, I would fall over and die. But a lot of people are into it these days and I noticed a FREE Kindle book today, Perfectly Paleo – 30 Unique and Delicious Paleo Diet Recipes, on Amazon’s top 100 free list.

The Paleo diet is supposed to be a lifestyle change, not a temporary starvation method. It encourages a healthy lifestyle, a lifestyle that just isn’t for me.

Kindle Deal

war brides

Today(2-23-13 America time,) War Brides by Helen Bryan is on sale at Amazon for 99 cents for your Kindle (Prime members can borrow it for FREE!!) Can’t beat that! I thought this book was on my wish list, but turns out it isn’t. Maybe I deleted it somewhere along the way, but either way, it looks like an interesting read about WWII, friendship, and love.

It has to be put on the end of the  long list of books I want to read, but it could make a good airplane book for my journey back to America (just for a visit) on April 29.

Check out all of the Gold Box Deal of the Day Kindle books  here. I can not wait to get back to the states and update my Amazon Prime membership. You can borrow so many great books for free.
